Let’s talk about digital

Being the extrovert that I am, speaking and teaching was a natural progression for me. I love sharing knowledge, and found I was able to do this at the wonderful school of General Assembly. I also spoke lots of experts in the design industry to ensure that my digital strategies would incorporate designs that were more than just an image on the web.

A wonderful challenge was thrown at me to lead the digital consulting department at Melbourne’s creative agency Yoke. I was given the lead to translate the complex world of digital marketing into clear and concise pieces of analytically-driven directives for various industries within a design-driven environment. Talk about left and right brain thinking! Less than 2 years down the line and I had grown the team of digital marketers and successfully influenced the business to incorporate “digital” thinking in all its projects.

After multiple agency contact points, I started my own consultancy alongside working on an MBA, meetign great agencies that trusted me to build up departments and strategise projects – I am proud to have become a thought leader and advocate for using the digital space to enhance business success.

If you don’t find me coaching or consulting on digital business topics, you can find me in a yoga pose, with a spanish red wine glass in my hand, or gardening in my lovely backyard garden. Swing by for a chat in my hollywood swing?

My tale to digital

How did I manage a career in digital? Lots of people ask about my story, so I want to share my story with you.

Firstly, you need a strong business background. The dual study program in Germany (Bertelsmann AG) and MBA from Monash University (Australia) helped me to achieve that. Then there’s the love for tech and data. I guess I am just a nerd – I even build my shopping lists with Excel weighted criteria formulas! And of course, there’s the heart of a marketer – understanding the consumer and ways to reach them. Experience helps for this one, as well as emotional intelligence and two wide-open eyes for the world that we live in.

I built my first website at the age of 12. Why? My dad who bought me a domain for my birthday- the one you are currently on. Thanks Dad! The website was a forum for Harry Potter fans. You might not be surprised to hear it didn’t’ really take off. However, this was the beginning of many valuable lessons in the digital world.

While being exposed to many things digital in my early years of working – my journey into digital really took off in 2011. I was in Paris and didn’t speak the best of French. In the digital sphere, location isn’t everything however, and I managed to secure a job in online marketing and turn my old hobby into a career. I started working in the affiliate and online marketing software sector, quickly moving into the agency space as a specialist.

From there on I quickly realised I want to be more strategic and started consulting both freelance as well as in creative agencies, digital agencies and innovation consultancies – growing with each role and through amazing people I worked with.
